JMS Strengthens Regional Knowledge Sharing as UPDF College of Logistics and Engineering Benchmarks Medical Supply Chain Operations

Joint Medical Store (JMS) recently hosted officers and students from the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) College of Logistics and Engineering for a benchmarking visit aimed at strengthening practical understanding of medical supply chain management within the Private Not-for-Profit (PNFP) health sector.
The visit is part of a long-standing partnership between JMS and the College, which has seen successive cohorts of students undertake learning visits to JMS over the past five years. This year’s delegation also included military officers from Rwanda and Burundi, reflecting the growing regional interest in efficient, resilient and customer-focused health supply chains.
During the visit, the delegation toured JMS’ warehousing and distribution facilities, where they gained first-hand exposure to the end-to-end medical supply chain, from procurement and quality assurance to warehousing, inventory management and nationwide distribution. The practical sessions complemented the theoretical knowledge acquired in the classroom, offering valuable insights into how JMS ensures the continuous availability of quality and affordable health commodities to health facilities across Uganda.
The delegation expressed appreciation for JMS’ openness in sharing its experience and best practices. As a token of appreciation for the continued partnership, the UPDF College of Logistics and Engineering presented JMS with a commemorative plaque in recognition of its contribution to logistics education and professional development.
Speaking during the visit, the team leader thanked JMS for its consistent support over the years.
“For years, I have seen JMS delivery trucks serving health facilities across different parts of Uganda. It is rewarding to finally visit the source and witness the systems, professionalism and commitment behind those deliveries. The practical experience gained here is invaluable to our officers and students.”
Speaking on behalf of JMS, the team welcomed the delegation and reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to supporting institutions that are shaping the next generation of logistics professionals.
